A unique feature of Konkan is its many dargahs and mosques. Thousands of Hindu and Muslim devotees have faith in these Dargahs and they participate in the Urus held here with devotion. Hazrat Yakut Baba Sarwari Rahmatullah Dargah in Kelshi is one such historical Dargah which is 386 years old.
Yakutbaba, also known as Yakubbaba, is said to have reached Kelshi from Hyderabad, Sindh province in 1618 via Bankot. Since then, Yakut Baba has been living in Kelshit and his secular conduct has earned him a place in the minds of the people.
Every year on December 6, there is a big Urus. Thousands of Hindu and Muslim devotees of Baba come to this Dargah. Yakut Baba’s life, his conduct and his devotees who have faith in Baba saw that the feeling that humanism is always superior to any caste religion is felt here.
It is said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj met Yakut Baba while he was preparing for the Dabhol campaign. The Maharaja expressed his desire to build a Dargah at Kelshit. Similarly, a Dargah was built on a stone square with very straight Muslim arches. 534 acres of land was awarded for the cost of the Dargah.
